How we work
GetFit Wales aims to increase physical activity levels for those individuals on the project, reduce obesity, and make residents aware of the local services in the area in order to make positive changes to their social outlook and become more involved in community activities.
GetFit.Wales is a platform that rewards people for being active. It works by linking the individuals profile to their Fitbit account (please click here to connect your Fitbit account if you have not done so already) and allocates points on the amount of steps achieved over the NHS Choices recommended 10,000 steps per day. Please note that for the getfit.wales algorithm to award the relevant number of points, the participant will need to sync their Fitbit through the Fitbit app daily.
0 steps – 10,999 : 0 points
11,000 – 11,999 : 1 point
12,000 + : 2 points
Points can be earnt on the website for a maximum of 12 weeks and can be spent on local health provision and food which encourages a healthy lifestyle. As you are purchasing passes through the website we ask for you to contact the spend provider directly to confirm booking.
To encourage spend, each point earnt will be kept in the participants online wallet for a length of 30 days. If not spent within the allotted time, the point(s) will be removed to stop hoarding.
Statistics suggests that 60% of children who are overweight prior to puberty will be overweight in early adulthood (One More Healthy Behaviour, 2015). In addition to this ‘The Welsh Health Survey (2014) reported that 38% of the nation is being active for less than 30 minutes a week. These results along with the poor diet and alcohol consumption levels of many of the residents within the Cwm Taf area contributing to creating a population regarded as vulnerable to developing high levels of chronic disease such as cancer and diabetes.
